1996 GMC Sierra 1500 Problem

I have a 1996 5.7 350 1500 extended cab and while driving my engine sputters and acts like it gets no gas. Sometomes it will stall while driving and other times it wil stall when stopping. I have checked the fuel pressure and it runs at 40 psi. Please help i have no idea what it can be.

Are you sure it would be my fuel filter, I tested it and i was getting sufficient pressure. Is it possible that it is malfunctioning when I hit bumps in the road.
