Shelf life for gear oil?

I got a couple of quarts of gear oil for the rear axle, and was wondering what it's shelf life would be? I have had it for about 5-6 years. Has not been opened.

It should be good either way. Oil made from dinosaurs doesn't seem like a few years would make a difference. I don't think age would affect the synthetic stuff either.
