Dash Cap

Hoookay. For Xmas, i'm springing for a plastic (or ABS w/e) dash cap to put over my booboo dash. Who makes the best / where is the best? Coverlay? I think Classic Industries sells coverlay. Chevy Duty and LMC sells dash caps too but im not sure of the brands. How well will color match between brands, IE i got my door panels thru LMC (i forget off my head who they distribute), and i probably will get dash cap from Chevy Duty since great prices. It won't be too drastic a clash would it?
After Xmas I'm painting the interior metal grey and hopefully getting a dash bezel too, so my interior will be (almost) restored.

I found one of those at a juk yard for 10.00 and had never been used. I cracked it putting it on after painting it. I found a black one on E-Bay for 120.00 but it was black. I had heard that you couldn't paint those for a couple of years the day after I bought it. It seemed to have an oily film on it. Well I got some paint thinner and cleaned it real good 3 times and painted it with a spray can. When I installed it I found a small place on it where the paint just pushed right off with my thumb. I cleaned it that one spot again and only painted that one spot and it stuck that time. I have had it on there about 6 months and it still working OK.

i bought one from Chevy Duty - installed fine. not sure about their color match - i got a different color than my original. even know it looks good - there are parts (instrument panel area) where i can see the original color peek through.

I have one made by Dashtop. The quality seems good enough. It states that you can paint it, but it's best to use an adhesion promoter. You can get it in a spray can from pretty well any hardware/auto paint store. I've never had mine installed, still in the package. Not going to use it now - going with a new dash pad. I think I paid about $120 Cdn. for it.

I think Coverlay makes the best cover. That is where the ones I sell come from they are $87 + shipping.

yeah I'm probably getting a coverlay, b/c that's what classic industries sells, and they have the best price on dash caps; LMC wants a 100 bucks for a dashtop, and Chevy Duty wants like 90 for unknown brand. Classic Industries wants just 80 for a Coverlay, so im goin for that.

Not to hijak this thread, but I have a 73-78 dashpad (not a cap) made by Dashes Direct that is brand new. It is black and cannot be dyed (their reccommendation). If anyone wants it I would be willing to sell it for $75 plus shipping.

I paid alot more than that for it and do not like it (cause I can't dye it)...so my loss is your gain.

PM me if interested.

I'll pickup on the hijack too. I have a blue one from Dashes Direct....same story, same price...$75 + the ride. It was in my 76 GMC for about 3 weeks before I lucked up on a NOS one on ebay that I couldn't pass up.
