New here, Introducing myself(NOW WITH PICS)

Hello. Looks like a good website for info on my latest project. I will give you a little bit of history first.

I just inherited a 1966 fleetside longbed chevy truck. 283 3 speed, Red with white top, chrome bumpers and metal bed. It was my grandfather's truck he bought in 1970 from a friend of his. So I will be the third owner. I learned how to drive in this truck, my grandpa and my dad let me drive it out on the backroads of Kentucky when I was about 10 years old on. My grandfather passed away from lung cancer on my 12th birthday in 1986. (So you can imagine the importance of this trucks restoration) From that day the truck has set in a barn on my grandparents farm covered in chicken poop, hay, cat poop, you name it. Presently this week it will be drug out, put on a trailer and moved about 30 miles to my garage. Through all the family squabbles and all I was asked what I would like to have from my grandfather, the farm, etc...all I asked for was that old truck. So I will start restoring it in the coming months with yalls help I hope. I will try to get pictures soon to show yall. I look forward to starting this project.

Welcome to the board from SW Washington State...

Post some pics of her before and during your work...

Lots of help available here, and possibly what you may need to do your project.

www.truckandcarshop.com sells a tank for the back where the spare tire goes for $166. It comes with straps sender and 22 gal tank... If you dont like shifting and you will be doing alot of freeway driving I say put in a 700R4 but if it is mostly in town and hauling then a TH350 will do just fine.. You will need a new coluimn with an automatic shifter or get an aftermarket floor shifter.. You will need an automatic crossmember and Parking brake set up.. If you get a short tail TH350 you will not have to have the drive shaft cut but if you use a 700R4 you will have to have it shortened.. You will also need a new yolk up front for the automatic instead of a 3 speed one.. The 700 and 350 use the same crossmember mount and front yolk for the tranny... Don't forget the Flexplate/Flywheel... good luck...

If your do decide to go with the 700R4 i would sugest going with the later modle ones cause i had a camaro with the older style 700R4 and it was junk. Ive have been told that they fixed that in the second revision.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that.. 1988 or newer but not over 1993 I think before they went all electronic.. My 65 has a 700R4 from an 84 caprice but it has been reworked and works great but I do have an 89 year model waiting to take it's place....

here some pics.....

hope you like,... most of the white substance you see on the truck wipes off, its mostly just chicken crap, hay dust etc...
