Stinky engine!
After changing the intake and putting a new 4bbl edlebrock carb, my engine is running rich. It smells a lot even some times it hurts my eyes!. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a model 1405, manual choke version, that I pulled off of my truck. It was also running very rich. The 1901 (Q-Jet version) that I put on it, doesn't run rich at all.
Go to www.edelbrock.com. You can get technical assistance from the website and you can also download anything that they have available. The 1405 is jetted for performance, while the 1406 is jetted leaner. You can buy jets and needles to alter the carburetor, from many speed shops. But, you're right about it burning your eyes and nose. Mine did. In fact, when I installed the Q-Jet 1901, I had to put a heat shield on the starter solenoid because the engine actually ran hotter and the starter would "drag" due to the heat. Leaner settings will induce heat. Something you may need to do when you re-jet it for a leaner mixture.

Nima, aren't you the guy with the electric choke that's not hooked up?
You're going to have to get the choke working properly before you can get to the bottom of the situation. All the adjusting and jetting and such will be for naught if the choke isn't working properly. When fixing mechanical stuff, you have to get the basics covered before going too far.

Ok, It is weekend again. I connected the electric choke this pm. I made sure it is connected to keyed 12v. Still it runs rich, maybe a little better though. Also I noticed that engine runs warmer too. I looked at Edlebrock web site and all I saw was about choke. I just want to know if there is nothing else that I am missing. Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

It is edlebrock 1406 600 cfm with electric choke. No, I didn't adjust any screws because it was my undrestanding these carb are ready to run out of the box.

When folks say "ready to run out of the box", they mean it likely won't need any other parts changed to run well.
You will need to adjust the two idle mixture screws on the front of the carb. It takes about 15 seconds each and should be outlined in the paperwork that came with the carb. Engine should be fully warmed up and choke fully opened before adjusting these screws.
