rear splash guards
I was bolting in my old splash guards today and came across a problem. These are the same splash guards that I removed from the truck and (I hope you can see in the picture) am having some problems aligning them up to the rear quarter of the bed. The bed is about 3/4" higher than the splashguard. I think the body shop tried to "straighten" the rear quarter lip. I've got the same problem on each side of the truck.
I guess I'm trying to ask, how would you guys fix this? I dont want to bend my quarters, and I really want to bolt these guys in all the way... Last edited by incoma; 09-27-2004 at 02:17 AM. |

Nope. These guys are bolted in all the way. I think the body shop that painted the truck straighteded out the rear quarter and in doing so moved it up. Its about 1/2 inch difference. I don't want to bend the sheet metal cuz then it would look rigged up, and the body line won't look right.

I had hell putting 'em back on my truck too but I finally figured it out. I had to push and maybe bend 'em a little to get 'em back on.

I think these were problems when they were new. A little bending and tweaking, throw some 10" mud flaps on and you will never notice. At least thats how i did the last one.

I'm debating on whether or not I should just cut the back portion of the splash guard and just leave it as is. The rest of it is bolted in and solid. I guess this bolt is just to keep the guard steady if you kick of a massive rock or something.
Then again, I could just leave it as is. But it would be one of those things that keeps me up at night. Stupid stuff, ya know. |

i had the same problem with mine, i left them off for now, they look like they were never even close although i removed them myself.

Man looking at your pic it looks like the lip of the quarter is bent up at that point anyway. I would pull it down and bolt it up, it's 1/2". If pulling the quarter down 1/2" bothers you that much then maybe slide a couple body shims in between.
I'd rather loose sleep over something thats bolted up than something that isn't bolted at all.  Good luck with the truck.
