Spring compressors
Where is the best place to pick up a set of these?
any particular type i should look at? Also, upon checking my front susp out... there doesn't seem to be enough room to get the compressors on the outside of the spring, but the hole in the bottom A-arm seems too small to remove the tool after you install the srping on the inside.... any hints?

I don't think I even used mine compressors on my 64, I had it jacked way up in the air already and used a floor jack under the A arm. There insn't alot of pressure on these springs once you take all the weight and the shock off.

You don't really need a spring compressor, just loosen the ball joint nuts put a jack under the A arm chain the spring just for safety give the spindle a good whack on the side to pop it loose jack it up enough to get the nut off then lower slowly the spring should drop right out. Reverse to install.

well, i want to put things back together so i need something to compress it enought to line things up. plus, i just have the frame to weigh things down. no engine no cab. so there isn't really that much weight...
yah, i had no problem taking them out without the compressor.

I had to use a compressor installing my springs due to the fact that I currently have a rolling frame.
I tried a few different setups. I ended up using a compressor intended for use on Mustangs. They have disc type cups on the top and bottom and it disassembles for removal. thanks for the link joe.
does anyone have any ideas for where to get the type of compressor? Ive checked at a few local stores like murrays and auto zone and they are all clueless as to where i can get one. It's obviously a specialty tool, but none of these stores can even give me a place to buy these tools...... i may resort to the jack under the arm with a front end loader on top of the frame.....

I would run a chain through the middle in case it wants to take off on you. But, i've done it before and never had a problem with just a jack. If you need a compressor I would try online, someplace like summit would have it.

well, i was informed that the old comapny that used to make the disc style compressors no longer produces them....
i think im just going to rig one up using some threaded rod and some plates of steel cut down to size.... might be a little rickety but it should work...
