Small Block help
i need some one to id thi...............................just kidding, but on a sb has anyone ever drilled and tapped a hole into a spot that there isnt, but could have one in a later year??? my block is a 73 and it has the two flat spots one above the other right behind where the P/S pump is, but there is no holes. i bought a bracket for my ps pump and the bracket uses those holes. and could i possibly get someone to check the depth of those holes. i called a machine shop and they said i could and not to exceed 3/4 of an inch, i am looking for a second opinion.

If it goes too deep and hits water, it's not the worst thing in the world. Just use sealer on the bolt.
The cast iron will tap real easy, it won't cut into shavings, it will make powder instead.

There's also one on each side of your block if you ever really need to get the water out of your truck.

Right above the oil pan, on each side of the block is a plug you can remove. Most times, you need to poke a screwdriver up into the hole after removing the plug because there is usually scale obscuring the hole, keeping the water from coming out..

on mine I usually install a petcock on each side. it makes for easy flushes annually.
