tilt column
i have a tilt column with a lot slop..does anybody know if a rebuild kit is available? or maybe a new shaft, if anyone knows please let me know..thanks j berkeley

Depending on what is causing your slop, this might fix it. He refers to the loose screws, a common problem, as "loose tilt mechanism."

thanks for the reply, the problem seems to be in the wheel side to side. when i rebuilt my jeep, they made a kit for the shaft. and that made it a little firmer.. so i guess what i'm looking for is a rebuild kit for the shaft.. thanks again...

I had the slop too and those four little torx screws were what was causing it.
Fixed it last week and it was pretty easy. Just make sure you get the lock plate remover and the wheel puller before you start. |

Be sure to dope those four screws with blue Lok-Tite, so that once you tighten them, they stay tight.

Yep, did that fix myself. If you look around on the net, there are a couple of places you can find info. When I did it, I found a site that had step by step instructions with pics. I just printed it and referred to it as I went. It's a challenge, but not real bad, really close on a few things, like having enough play on the wiring harness, and keeping track of parts (and remembering how they go back) but do-able. Nice and tight now, just like new.
