Tank Help Needed! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I notched the crossmember for tank clearance. But the filler neck hits the crossmember where bed bolts to the frame. I have had ideas of shortening the neck a little but am not sure. I also thought of heating and bending the filler neck on the tank. Do you think Heating it would be ok? Any Ideas? Here's a picture of just what im talking about. The black marks are where the edges of the crossmember are when mounted. Any experiences, tips, ideas, etc, would be appreciated.

Is it possible to un bolt it and turn it upside down? Would that change the angel of the filler neck?

can you shift the tank forwards or backwards a little? We did and used 1 1/4 filler hose, available from Dayco,(from your favorite auto parts store) and flexed it around it.

unfortunatly thats all the way up, all the way back was dead center into the crossmember, u were able to stretch the 1 1/4" hose over the neck? ill have to try that

we had the plastic tank, it may be different from yours. I'm also operating on a 9 month ago memory.

Here's some more thoughts.....most guys take that crossmember completely out. We didn't because we used a plastic board that I felt needed the crossmember there. I made a member by taking a thin piece of steel and welded smaller legs at the holes to make more room. I might have some pics if you're interested.

Cut it back, solder a copper 90' or '45 depending on where you are heading with it. HVAC or a good plumbing shop carries the bigger sizes

Does any one have thoughts about taking it to a radaitor<sp> shop & have them relocate the neck to the rear of the tank?
