383 Questions

I'm building a 383 for my truck. I'm bolting the front together and noticed there isn't much clearance between the water pump and the 400 small block harmonic balancer. Is this going to be a problem?

Question 2: There isn't much clearance between the timing tab and the harmonic balancer. Problem?

Question 3: I bolted a new Edelbrock 2101 aluminum intake manifold on it. I also have a new Edelbrock 1406 to bolt on top of that. The 1406 has an electric choke pull off. What should I block the hole next to the carb with where the older style bi-metalic strip choke pull off would go?

I included a couple of pictures to help show what I'm asking about.

for the choke im almost positive they make a plate specifically for that....as far as the balancer it's fine...it's supposed to be close

any autoparts store that sells edelbrock should have the block off plate with the provisions for the choke to be screwed on top, in stock, and as for the dapener you shouldnt have a problem ever, because is just goes around and around and will never move up or down and hit your waterpump

Usaully when you buy the manifold it comes with the plate to block that off,or at least the last couple edelbrocks i got came with them.

the reason the balancer is close is because 400 balancers are ususally 8" diameter...which is no problem..will never hit unless it beaks off. Some BigBlock balacers are 8 1/4" - but they might have a little more clearance due to the block size.
No worries on the balancer

And yeh what they said about the "block off plate" or you can just make one - cut it out of a thick piece of steel (1/8 is plenty)you got laying around and drill the holes for it..then just get the gasket or make one and you should be golden...but i know they sell gaskets for those at the regular parts stores.
Note (get a piece of old angle iron you got lying on the ground..and cut one side off it then cut it to length and drill holes.

The waterpump should be fine, for the choke, yu need the block off plate that edelbrock makes, and also a new choke rod that they also make. For the timing pointer, I suggest getting a better one, because they arent supposed to be like that. lol (I got a cheap one and it was the same way, so I got a better one).

the other thing you could do is just bend the pointer. (not advised though)
