4 Core Radiator Install Problem
Got a 67 that started life with a I6 which I swapped to a 305. Finally got around to putting in a 4 core radiator. Problem is that it sticks up too tall for the top mount brackets to bolt down flush on the frame without using a spacer of about 1/2 inch. I did the following:
1) New 4 core upper & lower radiator mount brackets and rubbers. 2) Notched the back of the radiator mount pan so that the wider 4 core brackets will seat down flush. The radiator is from Autozone and I have cross checked the part number and it is the one that everyone seems to list for this application. I believe the part number reference is GM 43-3369 if memory serves me right. Anyone run across this problem or give me a hint to what I did / didn't do ?? Thanks in advance!!

Measure the height of your old side tanks and compare to the new radiator. My guess is they are the same. The difference is the rubber mounts for your 4 core might be new and they need a little more oompf to compress them. I have installed radiators that had the upper brackets a 1/2" above the rad support. It still bolted in nice and snug without any problems.

I had to trim the back of the rubber pads too. I think the repo pads are thicker and denser than the originals. I have had it in about a year with no problems.

Like Da Burb says. With new rubber it does that. It will compress down and look normal (eventually).
