steering box question

I want to change my 72 Jimmy to power steering, will only a 67-72 4x4 box work for the application or can I use one from a newer (73-87) 4x4 Thanks

if you get one from a 78 (I think) and up you will have to change some stuff over for your fluid lines,,, they used a o ring style fitting were 73-77 and our years used a flare fitting,,, the o ring style setup can be used you just have to chang the fitting in the back of the pump and you lines,,, hope this helps Sean

Why? What is the significance about getting "newer" power steering box other than getting parts? I'm wondering because I may do the same thing.

I believe it has a closer ratio for better turning.

FWIW -

I've got a couple of PS boxes with the shaft for sale. One for $20, and the other for $25.
