Door Swapping
I think i know the differences between the 72 doors with the door panels, the guts(if im correct) and the screw but i was wondering what is involved on putting all the stuff from a 72 door onto a 67-71 door. Thanks a bunch

I have done a few and there really isn't a problem as far as door latch unit and window regulators. The problem is with the door panel mounting. 71 and older have captured nuts and 72 has round holes. the newer style plastic door panel retainers push in to round holes and won't fit in threaded hole of 71 older captured nuts. If you knock the captured nuts out and try and use the hole left over it is to big. Also some don't quite line up. I would love to see pics of how people are getting around this problem.

Thanks Solver, What did u have to do to get the regulators and lock units swapped? Did you get the door panels swapped? Anyone else?

The PO of my truck replaced the drivers side door. I have since removed the door liner since it was cracked and therefore can tell you how he solved the problem.
He drilled holes in the door matching the size and location of where they needed to go. Todd |

Door latches and window regulators are a direct bolt in . no changes needed. The only difference is the shaft lenghts that the handles mount on.
Toddtheodd the problems I had with drilling new holes is that some of the new holes line up with the previous hole made for captured nuts so hole was there and to big already. Did the PO weld in the old holes and then redrill?
