Brake help
I'm looking at changing my 69 from manual drums to power front discs. I've looked around at a few companies. Who is the best company to go with that would be under $1000. I want something good quality, but I can't spend too much or my wife will have my @ss. Thanks guys

About right on your budget. Friend used MP brakes power front disc kit on his 71 elcamino and likes them.

Don't about the price, but Early Classic and Classic Performance Products both make good parts. Also, this is a good time to lower the front with 2.5" drop spindles since you have to replace them anyhow.

It's already got springs all the way around it, and I'd like to put the spindles in front, but how low can I go in the rear without putting in a c-notch?

you could get donor stuff off of a front disc truck and new tie rods and ball joint and be under 1000. i have about 550 into all of my stuff.

The wrecking yard route can be both frugal & road worthy as long as you install new hoses and use the calipers as core exhange for new. If using wrecking yard hubs, thorughly clean and check the bearings/races. New is prolly best there too. The rotor can just be turned, if within min thickness specs after turning. Check prices on everything, new or used, before you start. Not to disparage anyone here, but some guys claim they did a cheap wrecking yard job but did not replace all the rubber parts, turn the rotors, install new pads, etc. to ensure they had safe brakes. Depending on your local/web parts souces, a wrecking yard job can get near as costly as kits with brand new parts.
For bling bling, Stainless Steel Brakes has some great kits. Comparable to MP Brakes. IIRC, one can reduce the kit price by sourcing calipers and rotors locally. Of course, if you want the best brakes, both companies have awesome upgrades over factory discs. But that puts the discussion out of your stated budget.

Not trying to throw a wrench-in-the-works but, I've often thought that if you go with aftermarket brake systems and the manufacturer folds you'll wish you hadn't when parts replacement time rolls around. For this reason alone, I would probably look for an original '72 power disc five lug set-up.

I thing I would choose my route like this. I f you plan on getting new wheels and changeing rear axle shafts then I would go for the cheap 5-lug swap(junkyard) IF you already have nice matching wheels and don't want to do a bunch of work I would get the 6-lug brake kit from one of the board vendors..
