Thinking about buying a C10
I'm 19 and I can't afford to spend a lot of money on a truck or car. I want something that I can fix up to look nice. Today I came across this C10 sitting on the side of the road for sale. Most people would of looked at the faded puke green paint job with a bunch of primer spots and ran from it, but I seen what it could look like with a little bit of work. So I got the # off the for sale sign and called it up. The guy wants $900 for it.Ut runs, but it's not inspected because it needs exhaust pipes and the headlights don't work. He said there's probably a short in the wires or something. It has new tires and shocks. It's a 3speed manual. That's all the info I could get from him because he was busy at the time. I didn't get what year it is, but I'm guessing it's around a 69 or so. I'm not sure what engine it has in it.
Do you guys think it's worth the money? |

First of welcome to the board!!! Hard to say without seeing it. Don't even know what part of the country you are from to hazard a guess. If it runs and does not have major rust, then heck yes!!! You might get away with a light switch change or something. Places to check for rust are cab corners and rockers. Wheel well arches get it bad too in the moister parts of the country. Drive it. Listen for the weird noises. Grab a mechanic buddy to check it out for ya. ....Good luck. I hope you are able to get it.

If you buy something that doesn't run, you could fix it up so it looks nice. whether or not you can drive it anytime soon is another question. Yet another question is how much it will cost to get running, safe, and reliable. These trucks are very "basic" and most parts are reasonably priced. With some basic tools, a bit of skill, some occasional help, and an investment of time you could have a drivable project that you could continue to fix up. When starting a "project" the question inevitably ends up being not "where do I start?' , but "where do I stop?". If you know anyone very mechanically inclined, I'd ask them to come have a look at it with you. If you can, post some pics on here. If it seems not bad, people will let you kow. If it's a hopless money pit some pics will help board members steer you clear of a nightmare... Good Luck

Welcome to the board.purple gas is right. These are awesome trucks, and pretty straight forward to work on.
Of course we encourage pics too.Shoot you can fix nearly anything if it's woth it to you. Some people wouldn't have touched my ol tub,but I love it,so it's a matter of opinion I guess.

LOOK ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD FOR RUST ALSO. I got a beautiful a/c cab, little bit of surface rust here and there. I didnt even notice that the roof was rotted out above the windshield on the drivers side. Still dont really know how I'm gonna go about fixing it, and I know its not gonna be fun.

$900 is a fair price, it all depends on how much money you can afford to put into it after you get it, and can you do most of the work yourself? If you have to farm out most of the work, that will get expensive.

I live in Richmond, VA. If I decide to buy it I'm going to take my grandfather with me. He's a retired mechanic and did a lot of body work too. And if it needs any fixing I know he'll help me out.
I'll call the guy up again to find out some more about the truck. Like where and how much rust it has. |

The one I'm talking about is on Pole Green rd. It's towards the end of Pole Green rd, not towards Shady Grove, but the other way towards 360. Let's say you're on Lee Davis rd and you're going towards Pole Green rd, you make a right at the intersection(where the new gas station is being built) and just keep going and right about a mile before Pole Green runs into 360 the truck is sitting on the left side. |

I found out that my brother in law's dad is selling his Scottsdale. I think it's a '77, 4x4 with a 350 4 barrel. The only thing it really needs is 2 doors, hood and bed. It's in good shape, no rust anywhere else. and has always ran good. He'll sell it to me for $1000. And to me, that is a better deal than the C10.
If anyone is interested in the C10 for sale let me know and I'll give you the guys phone number. He said or best offer, so you'll be able to get it cheaper than $900. I would get my digital camera and go by and take pics of it for you guys, but right now I don't have my digital camera with me. |

The 77 Scottsdale will be a fine ride, I would buy it in a "heartbeat", however I would still have to have a 69 C10 for a daily driver.

I finally got over to look at it...heres a few pics...looks pretty good...needs rockers and some repair to the driver door...also the spot on the bed...the rest seemed pretty solid...if the engine runs good i would say it is worth it

Well, the guy that was gonna sell the Scottsdale isn't selling it anymore. His wife totaled his daily driver truck so he's driving the Scottsdale now... Just my luck.
I found a '85 K5 Blazer for sale, so I'm going to look at that tomorrow. |
