Breather Filter for PCV system

My 72 350 does not have a filter for the hose that connects from the "can" to the valve cover. I see a replacement online but don't see where it would go. Should it have one? You know, the little plastic housed curved filter that goes inside a breather housing and has a clip to hold it.

I don't think these trucks came with that screen. The 71/71 may have, but I know the 69/70 just had it dump into the spacer between the carb and tha air filter.
