What does this do?

I was working under the hood of the truck and was wondering what this is?
It has a blue, black and white wire coming from it. I have open ends on the blue and white wire and the black (maybe green) goes to the tranny.
So.....what's it do?

TCS system (Transmission/Temperature Controlled Spark). Allows vacuum timing advance only in high gear and when water temp is above 82 deg. F. That connector is attached to the system time delay relay. Your better off deleting this system or just bypass the vacuum solenoid so the distributor receives vacuum all the time.

i yanked out my idle solenoid last weekend and hooked the dzzy to manifold vacuum .. i would love some pics on how to get rid of the other wiring and such thats involved with this system .. thanks

71-longbed, I hope you didn't yank the idle stop solenoid or you'll have a hell of a time getting her to idle and shut off when hot IF you still have the Q-jet in there.
Okay, I know what you meant, TCS solenoid valve right?

For my Jimmy I had a manual tranny harness with that thingy on it. I just bought a repro auto tranny harness and the wire for that thingy isn't there. Why would GM put it there if we don't need it?

MUTT will run fine, however you'll be the primary cause of the huge hole in the ozone layer above Flin Flon and ultimately global warming. Plus those extra emissions will come down in the form of acid rain in New England, damaging my paint job

We have a ton of acid rain here from the Copper Smelter dumping crap all oevr town. It has eaten many paitn jobs. One of the main reasons I used industrial single stage enamel on the MUTT
Good, if I don't need that thing on the firewall I'm takin it off. One wire goes to the tranny and the other 2 have open ends and aren't hooked to anything

That thing can come off. The solenoid in 71-longbeds post is an idle stop solenoid. It actually is for setting idle speed. It is hooked to ignition on power and the lever on the carb rests against it. You turn the plunger in and out to set your idle speed. It's great if you have an engine that tends to run on after shut down. When you turn the key off the solenoid de-energises and the carb butterflies shut completely so it can't diesel.
