Burb problem hopefully solved.

I was totally at a loss with my poor Burb. I took her in to be checked out by the mechanic down the road. He said that it wasnt a fuel problem, but an ignition problem. My timming was off by almost 5 degrees, and my brake booster is shot. He set the timming and the brake booster will have to wait for a week or two. Just too much $$ goin in too many directions right now, lol.

Thanks again to everyone who offered help. Sure wish some of y'all were closer!!

Take care!!

Glad to hear you got it figured out. At least it wasn't anything major.

Happy to hear you got the ol girl back up and running again Jodie. I had the same problem when I was trying to time my engine after the rebuild. It ran like sh!t until I got the timing all figured out

Good to hear Ma'am. Did he say why it was 5 degrees off? Was the distributor loose?

Wish I were closer too. Used to live in north east GA. I miss the south east.

Also glad to hear that.

The little things tend to tick us off. All your Burb wanted was a little attention. Kerry

Give that burb some love Jodie! Five minutes on a good diagnostic machine will do wonders for any engine. I thought I had everything right, I had set the timing with my Sun induction timing light, adjusted the valves twice, etc. Still ran poorly. Found out I was about 6 degrees off and I had 3 valves so tight they didn't close all the way. It was worth it.
Good to hear you got yours fixed.

The timting was probably done intentionally, just the blown brake booster making it stumble and fart. A few degrees off in either direction will be unnoticed by 99% of drivers, and in all reality, it may well run better. Stock seetings are not always what makes it run best.

Hopefully he got it right for you. I was thinking cracked distributor cap for the backfire/stalling. Vacuum Booster through the vendors on the boards are about $130-150 with master cylinder the price jumps about a $100. This would not include install which would raise the price. When they go you normally hear them making a loud sucking sound when you move the pedal and if you had a vacuum gauge you would see it drop real quick.
Unless this mechanic is the 1 that originally set the timing.... then the timing might not have strayed. I would have him check the mechanical advance and make sure it was not rusted up on you. Them humid south days tend to rust the mech. advance and your high speed driving will cause them to jump out and stick, Then one day they bounce and un-stick WHALLA timing is off again. JMHO dave
