My dad's gonna float me some money so I can get my truck running. We've already decided that we're gonna get some aftermarket heads. I'm not for sure exactly what brand heads I want. I've decided what size intake runners and chambers I need for my motor, now i need to know what manufacturer would offer the highest quality and other benefits like water jacket design ect. I originally thought about putting on some Dart Iron Eagles. Then in recent Summit Magazines they've been selling another group of heads. Pro something. They have a big list of SBC heads with different intake runners, chambers sizes, they also have options of CNCed chambers/intake runners, and valvespring kits for hydralic or roller cams. Which heads will be the best?

I'm also putting in a Comp Cams Xtreme 284, lift with 1.5 is .507I/.510E, Duration @ .050 is 240I/246E, lobe separation is 110. Anybody have any idea what converter to run? I've got 4.10 gears, headers, all the goodies. I think Tracy Focht had the same cam in his 383 and used a 3000 stall. I guess my 415 stroker should take the same?

That's a radical cam, but will be slightly less radical then Tracy's since it's going in a bigger engine. 2800-3000 stall should be plenty, but if your not sure, you could always call Summit Racing's tech line. Also, Vortech heads seem to be the best bang for your buck.

From what i've heard vortec heads are good on a 350, 327 for slightly modified engines. I think they have intake runners around 170 or 180 cc. From what I read and figure (my new math) I need about 215-230cc, depending on how fast i'm gonna spin this thing. That, plus I've got a Victor Jr. Intake, big headers, big cam, and 415 ci I figured i'd need some massive heads. I know the big runners won't give me much low end, but thats kind of the idea since I've got a 700R4 and 4.10's

Call a converter company or Summit...jegs is a good one too.
You won't be able to run that much stall with the overdrive, you need to keep your cruise RPM over your stall RPM...otherwise, you will have slippage at cruise speed, and an overheated tranny...even with a massive cooler.
