Yes, it is out of a diesel truck. The tach is driven by a cable the hooks up just like a speedo. Also notice it only goes to 4000 rpms. The battery gauge appears normal.

They had dieses available in Medium Duty trucks.You`ll see mention of w/diesel in the parts book,too.

Yep, they had diesels back then. Whether it was a diesel or not was stated in the second letter of the model number. D was a L4 diesel, T was a L3 diesel, and V was a V6 Detroit diesel. There was also the GMC V6 diesel, I've never seen one but I've heard of 'em.

its been a couple months since i put my truck to bed, and forgot that the guage saud said "battery" and not "ammeter"

Just look up model identification info [found in glove box]their were 3 diesel engine used in these trucks code D=4 cyl detroit diesel and code G=v-6 toro-flow diesel and code T=3 cyl detroit diesel.Now i am sure they were not used in the 1/2-1 tons,but in the larger trucks.The larger trucks have the same dash so my guess is a larger truck dash

I'm glad someone straigtened this one out, I was guessing it must be from a deisel, but I'm way too new at this stuff to know if there were acutally any diesels then.
