Crossmember Question??????
Would your crossmember stay in the same place if you pulled out a 350 turbo and installed a 400 turbo?

No, it would need to slide back about 6 inches...maybe four.

Hey longhornmail, that is what I had figured but I have a 1969 GMC Custom with no motor or trans but it came out factory V-8, automatic. I was looking at my 67-69 GMC Master Parts Manual and it shows the only automatic was a 400 turbo that was offered in 69 if this is true than the crossmember will be in the right location does anyone know for sure if the 400 turbo was the only one offered?

Not 4 sure, but I was thinking 67-68 you could get the powerglide or the th400 for automatics. I know I have parted 69's with th350's that should have been originals. Not much experience with 67-68's.
Tim, something I have noticed which might be worth while. So far all of my th400 cross members have had 2 flat metal loops on either side of where the tranny mount is. I think they have something to do with the emergency cable routing. I don't remember seeing anything like them on th350 cross members. That might help you ID what you have.

Hey da-burb Yes you are right on the power glides but the Parts manual does list it and the 400 but no 350 I will check for the metal loops in the morning. Thanks

I can not remember if 69 was the first year, or if it was 70.

Not that they are the all knowing answer to your question, but Advanced Adapters say the th350 is a 69 to 81 transmission on this web site link.
http://www.advanceadapters.com/acrobat/gtrans.pdf Nice info on a lot of the trannies there.
