4x4 Small Block Air Cleaner Help
I'm just about ready to fire up my new 383 for the first time. A couple of years ago I bought an air cleaner off the parts board. (this project has been a long time in the planning stages) The new air cleaner came with what appears to be the correct spacer. Last night when I went to set it on my new Edlebrock carb it was hitting the firewall. It fits under there but the top of the air cleaner assembly touches the bottom of the firewall where it curves up and out to the engine compartment. The spacer must be correct because the carb heat tube is the right length.
I measured the outer diameter of the air cleaner top and it is just over 16". Is there a smaller factory air cleaner for a 4bbl? The air cleaner I took off the old engine is MUCH smaller in diameter - but it fits a 2bbl carb so I can't use it. I am going for the factory look. So if a smaller diameter air cleaner is out there I'd like to start looking.

The 4x4 air cleaner is the same size but it sets lower onto the spacer so that it clears the lip. I can post a pic later if it will help.

I understand. No picture is necessary.
Anybody want to trade a freshly painted 2wd air cleaner for a 4wd air cleaner?
