It becomes a habit. Friends ask if I know every truck in the area, most of them yes, addiction is a scary thing.

What to do!

#1 Never go on a man's land without knocking on the door, if not home leave card or note, allways say you did not go on his land from respect. Ask in the note if it could be for sale, never ask a price. #2 If no call do not go back for at least a week, apologize in a note or in person as to the fact he may have missed your note. Simple respect is why I bring home about a truck a week. Dean@tnchev M G B Y

you know though, what really chaps my a$$ is that when you go up to someone and ask them about their truck and they act like it is just another vehicle that you just happen to like. I asked a guy the other day about his nice almost rust free (cab) 1971 lwb and his reply was "oh that piece of Sh!t?" and i just wanted to give a lecture on real AMERICAN TRUCKS!!! and what they mean to alot of people! oh well to each his own i guess.......

IF it's for sale and the owner gives the ok to look:

the first thing i look at is the underside of the truck.
-look for frame damage,
-run your hand along the trailing arms to make sure there not spread out,
-look for things that may make it more valuble such as load handler springs- tow hooks exc.,
-look at the bottom of the cab and see if the cab supports are still there as well as the cab corners--if they were replaced was it done correctly?
-look and see if it's drum or disk front brakes

in the cab

-is the roof over the window rusty?,
-does it have a tilt colum,
-anything special about the guage panel?,
-open the glove box and see what the factory options were,
-look at the dash-has it been cut for a radio?
-bench or bucket seats? original?

in the engine compartment

- v8 or straight 6 what size?
-air conditioned or non?
-power steering?
-power brakes?
-is the battery tray rotted out?
-is the core support rotted out under the battery tray?

body
-are the doors roted out?
-is the hood free of dents?
-long bed or short?
-fleet side or step?
-what year?
-wood or steel bed?
-any heavy rot?

these are mixed up as far as orde but i check every one of these points when i look at a truck. value is really up to you. i personaly won't pay more than $600 for a truck but then again i'm looking for project trucks and or part$ truck$. finished fully restored trucks can go from 5,000 all the way up to 100,000. it really depends on the seller and what your willing to pay. good luck
