I was just at a engine rebuilding shop asking about an refurbished engine for my 86 c-10, it has the 305. They told me it would be more expensive since it was a hybrid year, going for the carberated to injection system, something does not sound right, I thought a 305 after 83 was the same block. I've done business with them before and they are pretty reliable shop but this doesn't sound right.

Maybe they were referring to the fact 86 was the first year for one piece rear main seals and centerbolt valve covers.

86 is a weird year. here is the run down:

1 piece rearmain seal
the flexplate is different than for an pre-86 or 87+(thats the big deal)
carbed
non-centerbolt valve covers

True, it probably has ESC and might have the dual capacity accelerator pump carb, but these shouldn't affect the cost of an engine rebuild.

the CCC was a California only thing, i have never actually seen one in person.

There were alot of trucks in the southern USA with it.
My '84 had it until I went all MSD.

How does any of this effect the cost of engine building?Does the 1pc.main seal cost $1.00 extra?

ESC and CCC are 2 different systems. if you'll notice ESC and CCC do not even look the same when written out. that must mean they're different.

gasket sets are a little more expensive for the 86 engines, i believe i paid about $75 for mine. as far as actual cost of machine work, shouldnt be any different. the only difference will be the gaskets.

CCC = Computer Controlled Carburetor (Cali Only)
ESC = Electronic Spark Control (used everywhere)

i am not a GM Tech, nor have i ever claimed to be. i was a GM Counterman, and i am currently an RV Service technician on my way to obtaining an RVIA Certification (RV equivalent of ASE). i've been turning wrenches since i was 10 years old, and could very easily return to college and get my Associates Degree in High Performance Motorsports Technology within a couple months. a little common sense, and a little reading go a long way.

as for the icon and more respect. i could really care less how much you respect me. as i said before, i've been wrenching for the past 14 years, probably 90% of which was on a 73-87 GM C/K truck. i may not know it all, but i've definitely got the basics down. if someone chooses not to respect me because i use a certain icon, screw them. its their choice not to listen to what i have to say.

On a Atwood gas/electric water heater............what do you do when the ECO goes out when you fire up a new water heater?

'85 Buicks have CCC in their carbs. in Southern USA.

I don't know the difference, but my '86 GMC has a computer controlled carb? Didn't see anything about it being from Cali though?

how many connectors are on the carb? if there is one on the choke, and one on top of the bowl, you have a dual capacity accelerator pump, it has nothing to do with the computer.
