I'm asking this for Plum72, his computer is down. He has a 72 shortbed sidestep 2wd. He blew the spider gears out of the rear-end, and called around for new ones. The chevy dealer told him that on a leaf-spring option truck, they didn't come with a 12 bolt rear-end, but should have a Dana 60 instead. What he needs to know is how for sure to tell he has a 12-bolt or a Dana? Here's some numbers that may help. He has the G70 leaf spring option, the truck came with a granny 4-speed, 250 engine. Code stamped on the axle is:3896839, The vin# is:ccs142j119701. He's also wondering if anyone has a new/used set of spider gears for a posi, since he's been told he has to now buy the entire unit. He's got 4:11 gears. Sorry so long. Thanks.

1/2 ton or 3/4 ton ???? if its 1/2 then its 12 bolt, and if its 3/4 then its either dana60 or eaton 5200
leaf G70 on 3/4 ton is dana 60
leaf G70 on 1/2 is stil 12 bolt

as long as his is a factory shortbed then its gonna be a 1/2 ton , IE: 12 bolt rear no matter suspension thats on it back there,

if he needs 12 bolt spiders i have a million of them here that need good homes.,,,

1/2 ton truck with inliner will be a 12 bolt, leaf or coil springs. Is your buddies truck posi already? Hard to break spiders with an inliner in a factory posi. Easy in a single track as spinning the one tire grooves the cross shaft and increases side/spider gear clearances. Parts are expensive and I would buy a new one if posi or get a junkyard single track if you want to stay that route. Randy's Ring & pinion has Eaton's for $319 and you can get one on eBay for $299 (I'd spend the extra $20...)

Fast, it's a 1/2 ton, I looked at it last night and agree that it 's a 12 bolt. How much do you want for a set of good spider gears, so I can tell him. Is it interchangeable with a posi, or does it matter?

Mike, it came with a 250 six, it's now a built 383 stroker. The spider gears let go with the help of a 5k clutch drop at the drag strip.

He was also wanting to know the difference between a car 12-bolt and a truck 12-bolt. (If there is one).

I know the pinion diameter is different from car to truck. I actually think the truck pinion is smaller than the car. Other than that I don't know. Try looking in summit and seeing which parts/kits cross from car to truck.

car 12 bolt cover is round and truck 12 bolt is irregular, nothing wil interchange bewtween car and truck 12 bolts except possibly the diff cover bolts maybe, and yeah car pinion stem diameter is larger in cars than in trucks,

all 12 bolt truck spiders same, 5 plus mail for pair ?

I would think he'd be in for that price, I'll leave him a message tonight and post back as soon as I hear. He's got a truck 12-bolt. How many pairs do you have?

At this point he thinks the clutches are going bad as well, so he's probably going to buy a complete set-up from Moroso, unless you may have some good posi's laying around.
