I have a question. I have a chance to get a 1986 5/4 ton CUCV pickup.
The cab and bed are not worth much and the engine is bad(spun bearing). It still has all the drive train in it. Front D60 and FF14 rear and the TH400/NP208(I was told, couldn't crawl under it today) setup. Mileage is 41,xxx.
My question is this, is it worth it to give $1,250 for this truck, keep the front and rear axles and part out the rest to get back as much money as I can? The tires and wheels are in excellent shape also. The doors are in good shape as well as the doghouse. Only rust up front is on one inner fender. Any help would be appreciated. If this is the wrong forum for this, please let me know and I will move it .

I know a junkyard wants $1200 for a dana 60 and 14ff are about $100-150. I'd offer $1000 or something like that and see if they will bite.

I would try lower, say around $800 and bargain. All they can say is no, but they may want it gone.

It is going to be the 400/208 combo. He is close on asking price. Shouldn't pay much more than a grand for it. If you end up not buying it let me know. I'm interested as well.

The auction closed today and the truck sold for over 1429.00 so I did not get it. I did get a 1984 SR5 Toyota 4x4 pick up truck though. It needs engine work and a bed, but there is no rust on the frame or the cab/dog house and it has 4 near new tires on it.
If any one knows where I can get a decent (cheap) 22R Toyota engine please let me know!

talking about the auctions in Dayton? 260 ain't bad for that YOTA. The chevy sold for 1429. How did you know about the engine? Is that what the guys said there or did you go inspect it.

My son (11 yrs old) and I went up there last Friday when he had a half day at school. I really went to look at the Blazers they had. They were in pretty bad shape though body wise. They looked real good in the pics, but underneath was another story altogether. The one that sold for over 2,000 was the better of the 2 bodies, but still had a lot of rust on it. The 1 ton had a good doghouse and the doors weren't bad, but the floor was gone and the bed was pretty well shot. Yeah I think I got a pretty good buy on the Toyota. It is almost completely rust free as far as I could see. There is a very small hole on the right front fender, but will be easy to fix. I am going to try to get it running for a winter beater, if not I figure I can part it out and make a couple bucks that way. Definitely getting rid of the cheesy home made dump bed.

Yeah, that bed looked pretty spiffy. I have bought a few trucks that came from Ohio and know better than to expect them to be rust free. The last one I got was up in Columbus. I pushed the cab off with out loosening the bolts. I think its funny when those CUCV's bring so much. The YOTA would be much funner and run longer too. Good luck with it.

mix the two! put the M1008 drivetrain under the Yota

that's likely what my next rig will be.
