stepside beds?

While looking for a stepside bed for my 69 gmc, I found a good bed on an 87. Besides the steps and the fenders (which I'll replace), is there any other difference in the box? Length/mounting holes/fender bolt holes???

Welcome to the board from Central Ohio. Where you located at?

If you look in the FAQ, there should be a thread showing the steps to make a 73 - 87 bed work on a 67 - 72 truck.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Palf70step did the mod, but the bed is now in my possession.

As Krue said, I did it. It's not to hard, especially if you weld better than what I do. Krue has to clean up a few of my learning welds, but it came out pretty good. I know it's a whole lot easier finding reasonably decent beds for the 73-87s in our area than a 67-72 bed.

Here is link to FAQ writeup on what it takes to change them over.

On the newer beds-- are there any structural /fab issues with using the vintage running boards [or " stepside Bed Steps" as LMC calls them]?

thanks

This website has just saved me a bunch of frustration. Thanks Bill for the great posting on converting the beds. I can now visualize the changeover, rather than futz around forever.

Located in Anchorage Alaska...yeah it's cold and dark. Have a 69 gmc shortbed stepside that's in pieces (latest project), a 70 chevy short/fleet that my mother-in-law gave to my son (was in storage in Flagstaff for 12 years....imagine my surprise when I opened up the storage vault to see a short/fleetside) which was his daily driver to school, and was voted best senior truck, and started this hobby by helping my friend restore his 72 longhorn with only 45k original miles on it. The 69 will be from the ground up, and is probably pretty ambitious for my ability, but I've got nothing but time to figure it out.
