Im restoring a 1971 GMC shortbox from the ground up. I currently have no bed and would like to use a fleetside box. Im considering building a box using all reproduction sides, crosmembers, etc. I will probablly use all Goodmark pieces unless there is a better alternative. Will these parts require lots of bodywork to make them show quality ?

I am going to do the exact same thing and make a NEW reproduction short Fleet wood floor bed for my 72' K-10. Just get the bedside made by Tri-plus, or GoodMark...which really is re-boxed Tri-plus. I have one new Tri-plus bedside on my 71' SWB and you cannot tell which side is the REPOP!

Don't know your location but for the money, I'd try to find a good original southern bed and go from there. Just my .02

I just replaced one short fleet bedside on my truck with a repoduction from Goodmark. It fit ok for me. It bolted right up. I only had one bolt that didn't just fall in place. It was for the wheel well. I did notice the new bedside was slightly lighter than the old side, but that could have been from the absence of undercoating on the new one. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think the rear stake pocket is a thicker gauge of metal than the skin on the originals. That's not true with the reproduction. Still, I not going to worry about it. The only complaint I have is that they don't come with any J nuts for the taillight housing.

I was much happier with the bedside than I was with the repo front door pillar that was no where close to the original in shape or quality. And also the rocker panels were not a prefect fit.
