Blazer Poly Tanks?
Have the original steel tank in my Blazer with couple of pin holes in it.
Better to spot weld it up and pour in some tank sealer, or buy a replacement poly tank? Anyone bought one. Opinions? |

I have a poly tank. I'm gonna use it, but I think it sucks. you can't get the vent fittings started straight in the plastic, theres always the heat and puncture issue too.

Thats what concerns me. I've seen one guy that had a tank with one side pressed in. Looked like it was imploding due to incorrect venting or something. I take it that they are not very thick. What are the issues with the vent holes you mentioned?

I would call Wes.......that's where I got my poly tank.......If you decide to try and weld your tank.......well, we'll talk to you in the next life. I'm betting the guy with the shrunken tank plugged all the vents. There is something to be said for doing it the RIGHT way!

Not Hindu, but thanks for the concern. Although I'm sure someone somewhere in the past has actually tried it.
The tank has been out of the blazer for awhile now. So hopefully the only bright light I will be seeing is the spot weld. My only concern with repairing the old tank is how long and how well the tank sealer actually works. |

Doesn't matter how long it's been out, you'll still get vapors in it from any residue in it. The best way is to fill the tank with co2, either from a bottle, or by putting some dry ice in it before you weld it.

Sometimes radiator shops will also work on gas tanks too. My dad has welded up gas tanks for small engines. You can do it if you just practice saftey, but I wouldn't want a career welding gastanks.

I have a poly tank in my pickup and it IS vented and it IS collapsing on one side.It will be over 105 here in the desert for about 3 months and I don't think they can take the heat. Yes most of the new vehicles on the raod have poly tanks but I think they are made alot better then that poly blazer tank.

Took mine to a radiator shop and had them do the work. It was less than $100 and has worked out great. Worked out great for me.
