what do you know about Dynomax mufflers

Well, i'm in the process of swapping my truck to a 4X and i was excited at the possibility of getting new exhaust for her, but the parts truck i just bought has a brand new exhaust system with dynomax mufflers, What will these sound like? Are they good quality? I looked them up in Jegs, and they cost about 40 bucks each, so i thought they might be ok for a while

Thanks
David

I just installed Dynomax headers and exhaust on mine. I hafta say they sound decent and somewhat beefy but IMO nothing sounds like a good set of flowmasters or borla sounds. But then hell if ya got 'em - try 'em, what do you have to lose.

a buddy of mine had a 84 impala with a dynomax muff on it, he cut it off and put a flow on, and you couldnt tell the difference, but keep in mind that this was a single 2 inch exhaust set up on a 305. the quadrajet would drown out the sound of the exhaust

My green truck had Dynomax Super Turbos on it. I didn't really like the sound at all. They're good mufflers though, and cheap too.

The sound deal is completely opinion, so you may love them.

I put a dynomax turbo on my 95 cadillac and I really like it. It is not very loud, but still sounds pretty descent... as far as cadillac exaust tones go.

Dynomax Super turbos are one of my all time favorites.....good flowing muff, with a nice mellow sound(also a good price). I run a set of 50's Flows on the Longhorn(damn sure wouldnt pay the price for new tho!) I like the sound, & the price was right(free works!) they were pulled out of the "junk pile" down at the shop.....the boss let me have em to drop on the longhorn(sweeeeet ). my youngest brat helped me do tailpipes on the 69......2 1/2" tubes headers to butt, does sound awsome back to the dyno max Muffs.......if you want to hear them, set them just behind the cab, & poke the tailpipes out the sides , just ahead of the rear wheels. Add a 3 1/2 x 16, or 18 " long can at the end.....& that will set the sound(sb or BB , its all good). My 461 " Olds had a "Nasty" sound , with the 14" turbo muffs.....sb chev sounded pretty good too Dont let anyone "bs " you, for a cheap set of muffs, they flow good......if you pound some "ponies" through them, they really sound off crazyL

I have the Dynomax super turbo's on my 66 Chevelle w/409 and to me, these are too quiet. When you get on it, they sing a bit but idling and cruising, very quiet & mild.

I recently got to hear a 65 409 Impala with Flowmasters and there was a huge difference!

I'm going to swap to flowmasters when I have an extra $150 or so.

I had the Dynomax turbos on my 69 with the 30 and it was quiet. I believe the Super Turbo's are louder - I would try them, can always change out if you don't like them. I bet you will like them.

When i bought my 86 vette it had the dynomax mufflers on it and they sounded ok ... a little rumble at low end and pretty quiet at higher rpm's but i wanted something different so i replaced them with flowmasters and the car ran almost the exact same but the sound was alot different. At the time i thought it was a big improvement but when your 18 louder is better. A year later i met a buy with almost the exact same mods as me but was running borlas on his vette and i have never bought another set of flowmasters again. My house is on a relatively busy street and i can sit in my back yard and count the # of flowmaster vehicles that drive by and they all sound the same, they are the american equivalant of the 4 banger jap muffs you see on every civic ...... imo they are a tired and boring sound. Borla mufflers are better built and sound better and i would even dare to say they flow better. They are ss and come with a million mile warranty. That being said, my truck was purchased with flowmasters on it and im going to make do with them until i put the motor i want in it, after that i'll be going with Borla. If you have a perfectly good set of Dynomax mufflers i would use them at least until youve heard the competition and then decide if its worth the money to sway. In my experience, it wasnt.

Talking You need a good hooker!!!

I am of the opinion that flowmasters are the glasspacks of today, in other words I never intend to use flowmasters on anything.

Borlas are excellent, but quite expensive. I have hooker aerochamber muffler on my 94 z 28 and really like the sound. Not too loud, but has a very muscular tone. There are so many flowmasters out there now, they have become run of the mill.

Hooker aerochambers are inexpensive from summit or jegs and very good quality.

I looked at truck that had dynomax and all I can say is LOUD. Too loud for my tastes to drive all the time. I know that lack of a full tail pipe helped that. I have flowmaster 50s on mine and they are not LOUD unless you tromp on it. Other wise it is just a beefy low rumble. 14 hrs of interstate with something louder would drive me insane.

i have dynomax bullet race mufflers on the white truck and it sounds very nice, its loud, but nothing i can't handle. the dump is as quick as the shop could do it behind the cab, and inside there is noticable noise, but i put the exaust on to hear it so i am very happy...plus it really sings when you stand on the go pedal. for 35 bucks, i aint complainin either

I did the same thing.
2 1/2 inch pipes exiting 18 inches past the cab with no down turns.
Love the sound when it's WOT.

Turbos on my 69. Not as loud as flowmasters, which is fine with me. I like to be able to hear the radio driving down the highway.

I just put on Dynomax Ultra-flo duals, 21/4 pipes exit behind the wheel. They are expensive, but extremely good mufflers. They produce a nice throaty sound but not real loud.....yet? They are a turbo looking muffler with an offset in/out. They flow straight through on the offset and are cased in fibreglass.
The shop were I had them installed(in his comparison) showed them to dyno higher than a flowmaster of similiar size.
