Behind-the-seat gas tank questions.
First question - How many gallons is the gas tank behind my seat? I have searched here and on google but couldn't find anything.
Second question - I plan to swap a TBI motor into my '72. Will the factory gas tank work ok? Are there any slosh/pick up issues? Thanks. |

the tanks are 20 gallons (correct me if im wrong) dont know about the 2nd question

If it is 20 gallons, then maybe my gas gauge is off? When it is under a 1/4 tank it will only take about 9 gallons.

i know the blazer tanks are 21 i was thinkin the truck tanks were the same

i think they are like 19 or 20 gallons

Thanks.[/QUOTE] I am going to do the same thing on my 69 GMC. The tank will work, but what I did was get a sending unit with the vapor return line in it to use for the return. On the frame rail will be an electric pump rated for the TBI. |

Some trucks had a smaller tank...16-ish or so...the others had 22 gallon tanks.

When I fill my truck up it usually takes about 15 gallons....I never dare run her near dry.... so I'd agree with longhorn that some are about 16 gal....

While I have not seen anything written about the small tanks, it seems the earlier trucks...esp stripped down versions, they seemed to have the smaller tanks.

my 68 was/is a stripped verson, boy am i glad i dont have a small tank i cant imagine stopping at a gas station any more than i do already

Page 67 of my 72 Owner's and Driver's Manual states 20.2 US gallons for C and K10 back of seat tanks.

Should be no problem using your tank for the TBI. I had TBI for a while. My sending unit had an indention in it. I just drilled it and got some brake line and brazed it in for the return line and ran it through the floor of the cab next to the fuel line. I did away with the TBI, but I can snap you a pic of the sending unit if you like. I have a vacuum cap over it with a hose clamp now.

gmc67swb - I shouldn't need a pic right now, I think that I understand how you did it; if I do need a pic after the swap I will remember to ask you. Just curious, why did you get rid of the tbi? |
