Ashtray body removal
Okay, these things have clothes-pin technology, but it has me baffled I've got a 77 C-10. I need to replace the cigarette lighter element (it's been sparking/blowing fuses when using the cellphone charger) but am not sure how to remove the ashtray frame to get it out. I don't want to just start prying and bend something. Are the ashtray hinges just dimpled to the dash so that some (limited) prying is used to get it out? Is there some other approach? Thx! Brian |

the only thing you can do is open the ashtray and there are two screws on top of the ashtray assemboy and two on the bottom of the dash that hold the entire assembly in you can pop out the whole assembly then and get to the wiring behind it as well as the lighter element itself let me know if ya need a pic or so but it should be self explanitory

there are rivets that are used as the pivot pins when you open and close the ashtray

Thanks Much!
I got the screws out and am battling the sheetmetal case that holds it all in place, trying to get it out the front. But at least I have it loose. B |
