I am puting my 68 back together and i need to reattach the vin tag with the factory type rivets does anyone know where i can find some of them?

I went to Lowe's and bought a rivvet gun and a box of assorted pop rivvets. Worked good.

The correct rivets are $24 a pair- they are called rosettes. Harold

wynne, yes they do you have to request them. One of those things they don't advertise. I just bought a set to go with the truck I am currently doing and they set me back a total of 48 dollars. Some have posted that they can do the same with a dremel, but I don't see it happening. The down side to trim tags- they do not accept M/C , VISA or Debt cards,only personal checks or M/O , however they do have fairly quick turn around also they do not do orders over the internet, everything is conducted by way of mail??? Don't know but it works Harold.

I hear that trimtags may have gotten selective with who they sell to. I've heard several people say that they could not buy the rivets from them but a friend of mine who has done business with them in the past doesn't have a problem. You send them a check with your order and they send the rivets. Call them in advance to make arrangements. (if they'll let you!)

If there is any 5-O in my area that can tell the difference between a regular old pop rivet and a rosette I will eat my hat. Just leave the things out in the weather for a week or dust a little overspray or something on them. Who is gonna know the difference?

They used the special rivits for a reason, and anyone who inspects cars for the state or insurance reasons ect, SHOULD know what they are looking for. It is against the law to do this with a few minor exceptions...and those exceptions are far and few between.

Come down to my shop and you'll see it happen right before your eyes. It's not brain surgery. A pair of needle nose pliers and a sanding disc in the Dremel does the trick.

Tx you are right is not brain surgery BUT how do you get all four to look the same? I think that if they are going to look they will look close enough to see that they are all a little different... I would notice it especially if it were my job to look for it... Why present the opprotunity for anyone to question it?? Seems like that would be a lot harder to explain in my opinion than spending the money to prevent the questions in the first place. Harold

bisquick65, sold me a set a few months back. you may pm him to see if he has any left, they are factory rivits. prior to purchasing my truck somebody did alittle body work and did not replace with the original rosebud rivits. i puchased my truck out of state. when i took it to the H.P. to get my title inspection (required in KS.) the officer (gal) noticed right away the rivits were incorrect at which time they ran a stolen vehicle report and checked # on frame and glove box I.D. to make sure everything matched, then gave me some special paper that reports it has been checked by the H.P. in case i ever get pulled over.

Harold was right you just have to request the correct rivets ask for vin tag rivets. they don't really care who they sell to they are just selling the replacements. they said its not a problem because they do not sell vin tags just the trim tags for the cars but they do carry the correct rosette style rivet and yes you do have to pay by check or money order, just ask for the vin rivet, but they arent cheap 48.00 for 4.......

wow, hope i don't get in trouble.....haha. never even thought about that. the frame should have the VIN numbers too, shouldn't it? in case someone says somethin bout my VIN tag with the LOWE's rivvets....

When we where down south, ok PA, it is south to us, I tried to buy a set of VIN tag rivets for my truck from Big Rivet Flats and they told me that it was illegal and also said that someone was hauled out of Fall Carlisle for advertising that he sold said rivets. I ended up buying 4 off of a guy out in the Chocolate field, not the right ones but they look great after the door is shut.
