Question cutting down long step

ok I know everyone has seen the fleetside where the guy just cut the back off the long box. Now I hate the look of my long stepper. so what you think about just cutting the back down to a shortbox till I get the time to cut or swap frames. I dont think it would look as bad as the fleetside because the fender kind of breaks it up. your opinion would be great. I shoud post this in Photoshop too but Ill try hear for now.

it would be easier to do i would think because you can bolt the fender anywhere on the bed...

but you would still have to cut the frame and shorten it to get it to look right.

i'm sure there are some guys on the board that would love to have that long step...so i wouldn't go cutting it up unless it is a junk bed

The long step is pretty rare. I wouldn't want to cut it up, just my opinion. Why not just get a short step bed and shorten or swap the frame later. Weren't the short step beds on these trucks the same all the way through the early eighties??? They aren't that hard to find.

I agree, you have one that's hard to find.

Maybe trade it for what you want...

Yeah, you're right, they're pretty common and they're ugly as can be. In fact, I'd be glad to take that nasty long step off your hands. I get up to Nebraska quite a bit from central Texas. I have one of those really rare short steps that I would be glad to drive up and trade with you. Post some pics.

It's together. It's out at a building I own pretty far from me. I was planning on getting out there after the holiday. I'll get some pics. What kind of shape is your long step in?

Its in good shape the where the fender and the side rail bolt together is actually in good shape. would you consider just selling the box. I have a 67 short step that Im doing a frame up on and the bed isnt in the best shape. If the rails are strait that would speed my project up considerable. Just a tought. Because I look at the long box One day and I like It and the next day I hate it. I have a hell of a time making up my mind on things. Im a packrat too.
