been having problems with my starter... gets hot and doesn't wanna kick. works like a champ when it is cool. tried a heat wrap for it no go. It is an ACDelco starter. I've got ceramic coated dynomax headers that are really close to it. I guess what I'm looking for here is some recommendations of starter that y'all use day to day, and have been trouble free. More than willing to eat my $40 that I paid for that piece of junk.

I see that Jegs has a remote solenoid. Could and how would that work for an OE style starter.

A mini starter is likely your best bet. An extra 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch clearance will make all the difference.

Do you still have the factory shield on your starter? I had this problem with a 70 Burb with headers. I finally found a factory heat shield, installed it and used some foil back insulation around that. Problem solved.

I've got a bunch of left over heat reflecting material from when I did the interior of the truck, I'll try that and the starter heat wrap I have. The suggestions reminded me that I had a roll of that stuff in the attic.

If you still go with a remote solenoid for converting chevy starters, I'm pretty sure NAPA and other parts stores sell them. You might save the Jegs handling fee, if not get a better price.
Mad Electrical has an online description of remote solenoids for chevys. Mad also sells a book on automotive electronics for do-it-youselfers. I've heard rave reviews of this book. Tells how to do remote solenoids, headlight relay "brighteners," alternator upgrades, and more. If you go thru Mad for the solenoid, you'll get the book either free or cheap.
