How to treat old rubber

I have an original 4x4 transfer case shift lever boot that is in good shape except that it is dry and becoming brittle. What should I put on it to soften it up, since they can not be purchased new.

Try calling a GM dealer, they have some stuff for weatherstripping that is supposed to keep it soft on new cars, may just work to get it soft again.

Not something I'd recommend imaindianoutlaw, unless you're doing the job by hand.

Start soaking it in some kind of rubber dressing like armorall. Apply it once or week or every couple of days. It should bring some life to it.

3M makes a really good silicone rubber restorer, I wish I could remember the name, the tube is sitting at home on a shelf, I use it on rubber as old as 1940, and while it isnt magic, it works better than anything else Ive ever seen.
