Anyone ever see stepside continental kit?

I just obtained a brochure about 1977 Chevy trucks. One picture shows a short stepside with the tire mounted behind the tailgate. Sort of a continental. Has anyone ever seen this? I would guess the tire mounts similar to the way they Jeep CJ does. I'm not sure I would want this. The bracket is probably pretty hard to find. I'm sure I could fabricate one.

I thought my stepper was marginal for use as a truck, add a roll bar and tailgate mounted spare, and it definitely would be.

Falls under the heading of "just when you thought you've seen everything...".
Interesting option though. Never heard/seen of one. Must have a lock mounted on the tailgate and swing out so the tailgate can swing down, ala the cj's. Novel, but it hides the nice lines of the stepside.

The "Sport" models seem to have interesting options/trim packages. Anyone know how long they were offered?

Hay guys! I'm new to the board. I have a 74 C10 short bed stepside with a lunched 250 6 cylinder. However, I do have a new 350 crate engine in the garage waiting for installation as soon as the suspension is done. I also own a 71 El Camino and 70 Dodge Challenger. So much for the inventory. I'll post a formal Intro soon under it's own thread.

Back to the subject of the spare tire delima...

I'll bet you money that spare tire mount is the same that is found on full size Blazers! What do ya think?

There is a plastic model of a pre 81 step side, 4x4 that has that style spare tire carrier. When i built the model however i mounted it in the bed of the truck.

The option started in 1977 and ended in 1981.

I think that could have been the Sport from 76, or possibly the Steet Coupe..
