head problem

had my valve covers off the other day checking everythign out, and i found that the exhaust valve on number six has lost the top lock and the valve stem has wore a hole in the rocker arm.... im defintly going to have to go through this thing when i get some new rings and thinking about a cam swap (considering im swapping heads intake and carb, do it all while im there)

I have seen where the rocker was adjusted too tight and it did this to it. Wiped the lobe off the cam too.

When you get the new parts installed bloo, let a pro adjust the rockers. I've talked to you for about the last week, and every day, a few times, you're fiddling with the rockers. Not a good thing to do IMHO.

the only reason ive been fiddling with them is because the last "pro" i had do it didnt do somethign right.. when i had the valve covers off to shine them, i felt of the rockers out of curiousity and every rocker was loose enough that the taps could be hand turned along with the pushrods also.. so i tightened them down the way i was told.. the one with the hole in it was covered with oil on the tip so i never noticed that

Have you tried the locking rocker arm nuts? They are a little pricey,($50 at Jegs, might find a better price by shopping around. Mine came with the cam kit) but they won't come loose. They have an allen head set screw in the center and once you set the valve and tighten the allen screw, they won't back off. Also, you might want to use a vacuum guage when you adjust the valves. If you see the needle start to flutter, the adjustment is too tight, the valve isn't shutting. Good luck and keep on truckin'!-------Jerry
