summit drop coils??

just wondering if anyone here is using the summit 3" drop coils for out trucks? i think im gonna try a pair when i do the spring flip out back. the truck is out of comission for awhile due to a trashed flywheel ring gear, so im gonna do the drop, add the aluminum intake, chrome VCs, shift kit and B&M converter...how do these little projects always turn out not so little?? oh well, when its done im gonna see if i cant burn acouple tires till they bust, just cause i have a set to spare!!!
also...where can i get shocks for the 3/5 drop without spending some insane sum of money?
thanks
Dan

Ive got 3" summits(Ground force) on mine along with belltech 3" spindles. Mine isnt on the road yet so I cant tell you how well they ride. Parts store shocks are usually about the same price as the "drop" shocks are, so you may as well get the right ones...corn

If you are just going to drop it 3 inches in front, I would do it with spindles (that is what I did). They are a little more expensive, but they will also ride better than 3" drop coils. Just my opinion.

MG&G,
I have the 3 inch lowered Summit springs on my truck, as well as Bell Tech 3 inch dropped spindles. The ride is actually quite good, but the lower A-arms are VERY low to the ground. You really have to watch the road for bumps, dips, ruts. etc. Also, I had issues with the lower A-arms rubbing the inside of the wheel when they were turned close to the end of the lock to lock. Some wheel spacers and a little grinding on the LCAs and it is cured. I did a flip kit in the rear, but it still isn't low enough. I need shorter shocks for the rear. It rides pretty rough back there. I need to replace a broken leafspring, and air bag it as well, so I'm waiting to buy more parts. Hope this helps you out a little. I've also posted a few pictures of my truck to give you an idea of how it sits.

I used a Western Chassis flip kit & 2" BellTech shackles to even out the rake on my 74. I also wanted a rear shock that would match my Gabriel HD gas shocks up front. After searching through their catalog, they offer a front shock for 73-87 4wd applicatons that was the correct length & had similar 'eyes' for mounting. All I had to do was remove the bottom sleeve in the shocks rubber 'eye' grommet. This allowed me to use the correct size bolt for the lower shock mount. Once I removed the sleeve, I installed the shock & used spacers on each side (the new shocks 'eye' is slightly narrower than the stock shock) to eliminate any slack.

If that doesn't make sense, I can post a pic.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

i understand that the coils will make the ride alittle harsh, but this is kind of a "quick and dirty" job, i just want it down. im gonna do the spring flip myself, just gonna cut the old perches off and weld a new set on, then just buy new ubolts. i was mainly wanting to make sure that no one had had any problems with the summit springs.
thanks for the replies

I had them with belltech 3" spindles much like others here. Rode good imo.
Funny thing is, is that when I took my cut springs out I compared them and the stock ones with 2 coils cut off had the exact number of coils has well has the exact height as the ground force ones.
Only thing is that the stock ones were sagged so the drop was more and I couldn't get it aligned.
the rear was a belltech flip & cnotch with a few broken springs that had been removed.
