Need Help!! Cab questions

I just bought a 71 chevy truck yesterday, long bed. It is my first truck this style. My uncle has a nice cab from a 68 or 69. But I think that this cab is off of a dump truck or something. The options tag on glove box says that it came with a 366, 5 speed man., and a 6.50 rear gear ratio. It has some PTO stuff still attached to the dash. My question is, will this work on my 71 1/2ton 2 wheel drive truck?? Seems like the 68/9 cab has a flatter floor in it, and the firewall sinks back about 1 1/2" more behind the motor. Also this cab is rounded on the toe board for, what seems like, the wheels. The regular cab isn't like this. Do you think that it will bolt up the same??

i think that would be a nice cab for a bb swap in a 4x4 with the firewall like that or a slammed truck for that matter with the wheel arches in the floor. about bolting up youll just have to break out the tape measure and do some measuring and welcome from nashville where are you from?

Thanks for the input. I am from New Philadelphia, Ohio. I am going to have to measure everything, just curious if anybody on here has delt with a cab like this before. I just want to here a definate "yes you can use it". Do you think that the flatter floor will have a problem clearing a TH350 or a TH400?? I am not too worried about the wheel arches, those shouldn't effect anything but looks from the inside of the cab.

about the cab? I have never heard of anyone here using the cab you talk about. not for sure if it will work or not.

I remember this being discussed before in the past.

Seems like the steering coulmn on the big truck cab is mounted lower or higher or at a different angle or something than the normal pickup cab does.

If the steering column is mounted higher or lower would that effect the dash too?? If it is just a matter of cutting another hole in the firewall I suppose I could do that.

Welcome from Canton, OH. What's wrong with the cab on the 71? Looks pretty good in the picture.

That red cab is from a medium duty truck, it won't mount on a pickup chassis. If you look at the door bottoms the doors on the medium duty cab are curved to fit the huge fenders that were on the big truck. I think the firewall is different too.

Yeah, the 71 looks good in the pictures, but it is all full of bondo over some home-made sheetmetal rockers and cab corners.

Robert, you are saying that there is no way that I can use this cab?? The indent in the firewall is 1 1/2" deeper than the pickup...that's the only difference that I can see. So the cab mounts are completely different also??

At the door bottoms towards the firewall....Aren't the big cabs missing a triangle section of door and rocker panel to clear the big fenders??? Or, is the rocker there and the door was just cut to clear the fender. I've never thought about looking under the fender on one of those trucks. I'm curious too....I know where there are several in 'yard's and the cabs are perfect, rockers and corners.....
