Whether you get a C10 or C20 neither one is "better" it just depends on what you want to use the truck for. The C20(3/4 ton) will be better suited as a work truck if you want to haul/tow things, not to say that the 1/2 ton can't do it. Alot of people want 1/2 tons if you are going to lower it and modify. Also C20's are 8 lug. All the years are mostly the same, with minor differences. Like the hoods being slanted on 67-68 models as you said and the grills vary between years. but 71-72 have disk brakes in the front which make for better drivers. However you can swap in disk brakes to the other years.

Both the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton should be able to pull your Jeep with no problem.
