Some 4 gear questions

Today the shifter in my 4 speed went to neutral, and the tranny stayed in 4th,which is a common thing in these old trucks,I've had it happen several times through the years.
Also it jumps out of 3rd,and idling along in Granny it just falls out of gear when I let off the gas.
Also it is really hard to get into 2nd sometimes unless I stop completely.

But it DOESN't make any noise

Is there anything I can do to make it work better with out swapping it out?
I am concidering a TH350 in the spring, which will prolly happen,so I just wanna improve performance until then.

Thanks

Keep the SM465. It's a great tranny. It does have a common weakness that usually pops up after many miles of normal wear and tear. Get it? "Pops up!"

OK, ok. I pulled a quote from a homemade SM465 how-to overhaul site. "There are two snaprings which retain the input counter gear and the third gear countergear. They wear and allow the two to walk, which causes the transmission to jump out of gear. These are replaced with a spacer bushing (p/n 14020811 from Anaheim Gear, essentially tubing as far as I can tell)." It's overhaul time.

You can click on the entries on this site to get a word picture of how to overhaul the SM465 yourself. Images don't work though the markers are there. Downloads as a text doc for my mac:
SM465

I hate automatics.

I have pics on the PC,nice article.Thanks.
I like the 4 speed too,but I would enjoy the automatic being old and lazy

I have a couple of these around wit about the same problem,so I may just rebuild one and see how it goes.Never been into one,so I may have lots of parts

Good. I'm glad you got pics. Now I need to figure out some computer software or find a PC to print from. Doesn't help that I'm computer illiterate.

Dear 67-72ChevyTruck Board Members using Mac computers,

Can you download the above "SM465" linky pages with pics? And show me how to?
