Thanks for the compliment guys. I really liked the small window cab since I think it looks great on a short stepside, more retro and it matches the width of the box. The cab was too far gone so I had to replace it. I will finish the cab later...a man can't have too many cabs!
The truck is dropped 5 inches in front with two coils cut out of the front springs, but will get spindles and bags later. The rear is dropped 6 inches with bags and will probably get a step notch. Right now I just want to get it back on the road in primer with all solid sheet metal. I had to replace the front fenders, hood, cab, battery box, inner fenders, box, and core support so far. I pulled the Powerglide and put a TH350 into it behind the 283. I suspect this truck will get the 454 or the small block 400 this summer. This truck is actually for my son. I will get it running and then turn it over to him for the final mods (laying frame?). He has his own ideas. I hope to start on either my '68 short fleetside or another '68 I hope to acquire soon.

If your son is young, 16/17....and is anything like I was....you may want to hold off on the 454 or 400....an I6 is much better for us youngins. I used to tend to see how fast stuff would go....now I just like quick acceleration Truck looks great! And I'm also a fan of the small back window. They do look more "right" on a stepside IMO.

greyhound and redneck, Good suggestion...he is a sensible kid and wants the 283 now for gas mileage. He is also wanting to build a pre-runner so I suspect that it will sit in the barn for quite a while or I will be driving it while I work on the other resto. By the time he gets around to this one I am sure it will be a foot race to see who gets the rat and who gets the mouse motor...LOL!
