steering problem

having a problem with my steering lots of play in steering wheel and when switching lanes have to turn the steering wheel 1/4 of the way before the wheels respond which one of them could it be idler arm or pitman arm. thanks in advance

Have a friend "rock" (turn slightly side to side) the steering wheel and watch for what parts have excessive play in them. Also watch the tie rod ends. Also watch as the steering shaft turns that the pitman arm moves right away to be sure there is not too much play in the box.
