powersteering pump

i had a question about my p/s pump on my 69....i noticed how it has rubbed the inside of my alternator belt something terrible....i needed to replace the alt belt so when i loosened up the p/s pump it was all the way loose but the belt was still too tight to get it off ,and since the pump needed to be replaced too i went ahead and took it off...but you could clearly see where the alt belt was rubbing the p/s pump, does anyone know why?it is factory p/s....could the pump have been shimmed out away from the block for some reason?....any help will be appreciated, thanks

If it is the factory set up, look at the lower/rear pump mount...it should go back to the driver's side motor mount.
I'll bet it is broken.
