Currently, I have a non-A/C dash and I'm thinking about replacing it for an A/C one. My question is what holds the dash in place? Is it as easy as unbolting it or is it welding into place? The reason being is that one day I want to put an aftermarket A/C kit in it when my truck is near to completion. Or should I just have the holes cut for the A/C vents?

It would be much easier to just cut the holes.

If I am thinking correctly, then BOTH. Bolted and welded.

Yes there is a bolt on the inside of each end and then it the forward part is welded (part of the winshield channel)

yes, it is bolted on the end and welded on right inside the windshield, like previously stated. If you replace, you could cut the dashs under the dash pad, leave the mount holes from the existing dash and cut the newer dash so it has the mount holes to bolt the 2 pieces together. The 2 dashs would overlap at dash pad mount holes. Does that sound confusing? It will work though.

by cutting under the pad, it would be hidden when put back together.probably not alot of cleanup required....when i do mine i will probably just cut the holes.There is a template floating around here for it somewhere!

There's actually three bolts at each end of the dash as well as approx. 25 spot welds at lower windshield pinch area. I just recently cut my non-A/C dash for the vents. I got a stock center vent from Mothertrucker's, and round end vents similar to stock with my Vintage Air kit.

Do you have to fab a new hole for controls on a vintage air kit? that is something i havent seen before!

I had to slightly enlarge the original hole top and bottom and then I welded in plates on each end to fill in the void. That gray area is a very thin layer of body filler.
