making bed trailer
Who has a good set of step by steps and maybe pictures for making a bed trailer using existing pickup frame? Curious to handle the height of hitch, ties into wire harness, where to cut and notch frame, added tongue and supports up front, whether or not to leave in rear axles and gears or ?
It would be cool to have a matching utility trailer and it seems too many long bed frames going to scrap yard.

The one I had used the original rearend. The tongue was made from the frame to form the wishbone, the longer here the better for more control. Board member Huck has one maybe he can shed more light on the subject.

I did not make it, so I do not have plans but do have a picture. Org rearend, springs, shocks, and tail lights wired for lights. This is the best picture I have to show the front but can get some more this weekend. There are also a few more pictures in the link below, (just beware if your are on dail up...)

I cut the frame on a 78 chev just behind the front cab monts.I used a 1/2 ton and left the diff in the rear.I would use a 3/4 ton and pull the gears out next time.Be careful when welding the frame so it does not crack.

Made one using the tongue from an old single-wide mobile home and a 3/4 ton bed. 8 lug wheels, sturdy thing. Also hooked the emergency brake cables up on it to a late model F-body emergency brake assembly mounted to the front end of the trailer. Pull the handle up, and you've got a hill brake for the trailer.
That was probably the best part of it all, was the brakes. I'm sure somebody else has done it, but I was quite proud of myself with that little accomplishment.
