am I nuts?
I'm building a 67 SWB from the ground up. The floor is pretty much toast in the truck along with cab mounts. I have a long wheelbase frame in OK shape and a SWB frame that looks as if sandblasting might not save it. I'd also have to do a complete rebuild of the rear suspension including new trailing arms and coming up with a 5 X5 rear axle.
I also have an 85 SWB chassis complete pro street roller with ford 9" disk brakes custom made exhaust and an 85 cab totally rust free. The 85 frame won't be a bolt in to the 67 but if I used the 85 floor pan sectioned into the 67 cab I could be up good to go. I did some measuring of the two gutted cabs and all the measurements I took are very close so close it's scary. The advantages are numerous the 85 frame is thicker, more rigid already setup with a and just need painting and detailing. I'd get dual saddle mounted fuel tanks. and a proven combination. given the work involved in replacing and fitting all the oringinal floor on the 67 cab Problems I see is that the wheelbases may be different 67SWB to 85 SWB. That may mean that I have to remove the cab mounts and slide the cab forward or backward to center up the front wheelwell and or remount all the rear suspension to center it the wheelwells. So the question is am I nuts, should I seek medical help, Is there a doctor in the house? I'll lay on the couch study my drawings and await your answer |

yes you are nuts....but aren't we all?? we put 20,000 into a truck cuz we didn't wanna spend 20,000 on a new truck.....lol

It's all about doing what you want with the truck,and I say go for it,most of us would like to see the progress pics,and finished product.

hmm... stretching the cab for more leg room comes to mind for getting rid of the extra wheelbase. ... or you could always shorten the '85 frame the extra few inches (easier). I believe it's 115" WB for the '67 compared to 117.5" WB for the '85. Using the '85 frame, I suppose you have no choice but to do a floor swap (due to gas tanks and frame kickup location, which would be prety cool in itself.

Yes, you are nuts ..... but so are the rest of us. We wouldnt dump so much money into an old truck unless we were nuts so i say go on and be cRaZy so long as it doesnt hurt anyone. Now the day that your out of the street corner turning tricks for truck parts ...... its time to get help.

Maybe you could look for a solid cab and more solid frame?? I think there would be a lot of problems trying to mount everything, rad. support, cab, bed, on the 85 frame. First thing to check is the wheelbase. If they are the same, or really really close, and you like a lot of work....go for it! Also, if your going through all the trouble...I'd make it a bad A$$ 4x4

i wouldnt be afraid to swap floors. also, 2.5 inches is not much. if you split the difference the front wheel would be 1 and a quarter inches forward towards the front of the wheel well and the back would be back the same. not very noticeable. im building a 66 dodge crew cab. the body is on a 89 dodge frame with a cummins deisel. to make the body swap easier i cut the firewall and first 2 feet of the floor off the 89 dodge cab. the four door cab went right over it and it worked amazing. kept all the same mounts, kept the 89 steering column and mounts, ac and heater box, outside air vents and everything. it worked very very good for me, so hopefully it will for you too.

I talked with Mudder about this project a few months ago. My original idea was to adapt the 67 cab and floor to the 85 chassis. After I got everything tore apart I realized it wasn't going to be an easly feat because the 85 chassis kicks up under the seat in the cab area. Mudder has a much easier conversion (not to belittle his conversion in any way) because he was building a 4WD he simply built a body lift to clear the obstuctions. Well Ok looks like I'm in a group of people that are as crazy as I am and It's time to break out the plasma cutter.
