Was in a junkyard today and found a 69-70 c-20.Wierd thing was it had dual wheels on the back.The rear end had bolts on the back cover but looked like it came out the front like the old ford 9 ".The glove box sticker said it was a posi.what is it?????

Sounds like an Eaton. It is most likely a Cab/Chassis type truck with a work box on the back. Electric Co., Phone Co., City, County, etc. It will be shorter than a "dually" pick-up axle, both wheels would sit at or near single wheel width. There were no dually pick-ups then. If you are just looking for the carrier, posi unit and gears, it should be fine.

Hey there bigunde that is a very rare ho-52 rockwell detroit locker. You can just about name your price on it too. It took me 12 years to find one for my K/20 . Look into it and you will see. Did you get it?

It might be a GM Corporate third member dropout. made in 68 only. My 68 c-20 3/4 ton HD had this.

ill look more into it.like i said it has a smooth cover bolted to the rear and pulls out the front.so you guys no better than me,im still gonna grab it

If it is what I think of and it is a third member, even tho its HARD to find parts for, I would keep it and store it away. From others that have told me, it would kill a F@rd 9" rear-end.

Of all the ones I have seen I have only seen one set of of gears...seems pretty tough to me.

The option would not say posi though..it would be "no-spin rear end" or part of that phrase.

If it said posi..make's me wonder... the dana had a "maximum traction" listing.

Regardless..if you can grab it, then grab it. Easy enough to sell here. But shipping it is pricey. You could sell just the locker if thats what it is once you take it apart. Cheap to ship just that piece.

How can you tell if it's a HO-52 or the HO-72? I have an Eaton under 3/4 '67 and a spare from a 3/4 '72 parts truck.

The eaton dropout third axle was made from 47 (iirc) to 72.
ho52 is the 3/4 ton version and ho72 is the one ton version. both are the same thing except for brake sizes.
the lockers for them arent that rare, I guess, I bought a complete ho52 with a locker for $100.

It looks like I have 2 of the HO-52s then. My 67's customer's build sheet is blank in the axle section, but as far as my spare? Guess I'll have to tear into it to find out if it's a locker or not.

I talked with the guys at Backbird's Custom Trucks in Spokane, they said they are OK axles but the brake parts are VERY hard to come by. They recommend the GM14blt FF, pound for pound it's a much better axle. It's easy to get parts for and can upgrade to disk brakes. If you want to stay OEM then the eaton is good, but stock up on brake hardware if you can find any.

just call napa...th4ey had everything I needed for my one ton's HO72. It DID cost an arm and a leg....at my cost it was about 150 bucks...but I had them the same day I asked for them.

It's the rear dually drums I can't find.

I did finally grab set of used ones ..from two different wrecking yard sources about 2 years apart. They are just within tolerance to pass our governent safety standards. Would be nice to find a set of real good ones still.
